Bold claim: a sky-high glass cube is coming to life, promising an experience that feels like defying gravity. The Malahat SkyWalk has announced a daring new attraction: an enclosed glass cube perched roughly 250 metres (about 820 feet) above sea level.
Named “The Overhang,” this kicker will debut on May 16 and will extend 2.13 metres (seven feet) beyond the edge of the SkyWalk’s 10-storey spiral tower peak.
Owners insist this is Canada’s唯一 one-of-a-kind structure, a claim meant to emphasize its rarity and novelty.
“The Overhang is designed to deliver an unmistakable rush from the very first step,” the Malahat SkyWalk team states. They describe the transparent cube, only a few inches thick, as creating a visual illusion of mass, so visitors feel like they’re floating mid-air with nothing between them and the rugged West Coast landscape surrounding them.
Safety and durability are emphasized. The cube will be built to high strength and safety standards, featuring five structural-glass wall panels and a steel support frame. The base glass measures 60 millimetres (about 2.36 inches) thick, while the walls and ceiling are 36 millimetres (roughly 1.42 inches) thick.
Accessibility is a priority, with full provisions for varying mobility needs so more visitors can experience the thrill.
“2026 is shaping up as a milestone year for Malahat SkyWalk,” said Nathan Bird, the general manager. “We’re celebrating our fifth anniversary, welcoming our one-millionth guest, and launching The Overhang—our most significant innovation since opening.” He adds that the new feature will elevate the attraction’s reputation for nature-based adventure while hinting at more adrenaline-inducing experiences to come.
