Imagine, pipes that have been in use since the year the Titanic sailed, 1912, are now due for an upgrade! It's a bold move by Cadent Gas Ltd to replace these aging pipes and future-proof the network in Sleaford. But here's where it gets controversial...
The project, starting on Grantham Road and extending to Mareham Lane and Ickworth Road, aims to replace almost 2,000 meters of pipes with new, robust ones. Cadent assures us that this upgrade is essential for environmental gains, reducing methane emissions and paving the way for renewable gases like biomethane.
However, the works, scheduled for an 11-week period from February 2nd to April 15th, will impact several neighboring roads, including Charlotte Street and Victoria Street. While the gas supply will remain uninterrupted, properties directly connected to the old pipes may experience temporary disruptions.
Richard Sansom, Network Director for Cadent in the East Midlands, emphasizes the environmental benefits, stating, "This upgrade is essential for a cleaner future. The UK needs a diverse energy mix to meet demand sustainably."
